• THE BELOW USED TO BE true prior to late in 2014-10, but now it is only emacs mode as far as I can tell. This was the way I found to make ESC always exit menus.
• We could probably put vi mode back via a preference which, if set, makes the app set vi mode explicitly at startup (in TextUI.initializeReader).
• ESC ^J ^[ = vi insertion OR editing mode (consistent? sticks to last one you were in? one of them at least)
• once in either vi mode, ESC to get to vi movement mode, 'i' (no quotes) to get to insertion mode.
